UAE - United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a constitutional federation of seven emirates; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. The federation was formally established on 2 December 1971.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupies an area of 83,600 sq km along the south-eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula. Qatar lies to the west, Saudi Arabia to the south and west, and Oman to the north and east. The capital and the largest city of the federation, Abu Dhabi, is located in the emirate of the same name.

Four-fifths of the UAE is desert, yet it is a country of contrasting landscapes, from awe-inspiring dunes to rich oases, precipitous Rocky Mountains to fertile plains.

The United Arab Emirates, one of the world's fastest growing tourist destinations, has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable holiday, sun, sand, sea, sports, unbeatable shopping, top-class hotels and restaurants, an intriguing traditional culture, and a safe and welcoming environment.

Airports in UAE

As a result of the growing number of travelers in the country Airports of UAE are becoming very busy over the years. Airports of UAE are also continuously developed to cater to the needs of the foreign tourists. The International Airports of UAE are there in five of its Emirates. They are- Al Ain International Airport in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Fujairah International Airport, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah International Airport.

Security at the airports has been one of the major preoccupations of the Government. In 2006 the Interior ministry announced that all UAE airports would be equipped with e- gate facilities over a period of to years. And E-gates will be increased in the UAE airports as the demand rises. It not only provides security but also comforts as with the e-gate facility travelers simply need to swipe their cards at the electronic gates to get their immigration procedures done, skipping the immigration counters. The e-gate facility was first introduced in Dubai International Airport.

Of all the six International airports the one in Dubai is one of the busiest and fastest growing airports in UAE. From 9 airlines serving some 20 destinations in 1969, it has grown to accommodate 107 airlines connecting to over 160 destinations in 2004.

Sharjah International Airport is the only airport in UAE that allows Airports to function with their own facilities. In Abu Dhabi there are two International airports- the Abu Dhabi International airport and Al Ain International Airport. The Abu Dhabi International Airport can accommodate more than 5 million passengers a year and numerous International Airlines run their flights in and out in this airport in UAE. While Abu Dhabi International Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the Middle East, Al Ain International Airport is much smaller at the moment and only 8 airlines operate their flights in this in this Airport of UAE.

The Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Airports in UAE are also developed continuously to cater to the needs of the growing number of foreign and local tourists.
