Duty Free outlets at the Abu Dhabi International Airport have posted a revenue of over Dh 500 million this year, marking year-on-year increase of 12.7 per cent over the previous year’s revenue.
The retail outlets at the airport could achieve this growth in revenue even when the retailers worldwide were facing tough challenges in the backdrop of the global economic crisis, the Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC) said in a Press Release here on Wednesday.
Abu Dhabi International Airport had recorded a 7.5 per cent growth in passenger traffic and a 5.5 per cent rise in average passenger spend in 2009, the release said.
"We attribute this success largely on the launch of Abu Dhabi International Airport's new Terminal 3 facility launched earlier this year," the release said quoting Huraiz Almur bin Huraiz, Chief Commercial Officer for Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC).
"Terminal 3 offers unique luxury boutique environment that the new. We have also reaped the rewards of the seamless transition we started in 2008 from being a largely in-house operator of duty free services to that of one adopting an international, best-in-class partnership approach, such as the partnership with DFS — the world’s leading luxury travel retailer and majority concessionaire at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
