Air traffic movement in the UAE increased by almost 10% in January 2010, when compared to the same month last year.
The country’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) recorded 51,851 movements, with the average number of daily flights coming in at 1673, representing an increase of 9.7% compared to January 2009.
Dubai ranked first with 24,338 air movements, or almost 47% of total UAE flights. Over flights stood next at 11,006, representing 21%.
Abu Dhabi ranked third with 7733 movements and Sharjah International Airport with 5095.
Local flights were 3021, representing 5.8%. Fujairah International Airport witnessed 366 movements, while Al Ain Airport and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport had 181 and 111 movements respectively.
In a statement, the GCAA added that it had issued 51 air traffic controller licenses in January and prepared 92 aviation accident review reports.
