Passenger traffic grew for the fifth consecutive month at Dubai International Airport in May, rising 7 percent compared to the year-ago period.
The airport received about 3.22 million passengers in May compared to just over 3 million in the same period last year. For the first five months of this year, nearly 16 million passengers were recorded at the world's sixth busiest airport.
"The fact that we continue to record positive growth even during a time when international travel has been severely affected by the global economic situation is a testimony to the attraction that Dubai holds internationally for business and tourism," Dubai Airport CEO Paul Griffiths said in a statement.
The airport, which has added five new carriers so far this year, is served by more than 130 airlines flying to over 200 destinations.
"There are indications that we will continue to welcome new airlines at more or less the same rate over the coming months, and this will certainly add considerably to our growth," Griffiths added.
