Dubai International Airports employees are moving from the back office to the frontline as part of the organisation's second annual 'summer mission' to help whisk passengers through Dubai International Airport during the busy peak travel season from July 1 to mid-September.
Over 200 staff and volunteers from across different cultures will be deployed in the arrival and departure areas across all three terminals - at pre-screening areas, check-in counters, passport control, transfer points and boarding gates, to welcome, guide and assist passengers from kerbside to the boarding areas. Staff will also take the opportunity to educate customers about airport facilities and procedures such as self-service that will make their future journeys even more effortless.
"During the summer peak an average of 100,000 passengers per day, many of them families with children, will travel through our airport. Our summer mission helps ensure that their experience at Dubai International Airport is a positive and memorable one," said Majed Al Joker, Vice President, Terminal Operations, Dubai International Airport. "An important side benefit is the great satisfaction it gives employees who don't normally have the pleasure of meeting and serving our passengers face-to-face. It helps further entrench our service culture."
To complement the initiative, Dubai Airports has also issued travel tips to help passengers help themselves move quickly through the airport.
Smart Travel Tips
- Check with the airline in advance for information on your baggage allowance. Irrespective of the allowance, a single unit of baggage weighing more than 32kgs will not be accepted at check-in. You should expect to be charged for baggage in excess of the limit set by the airline
- It is always simpler to pack liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) in your check-in baggage. However, if you have to carry LAGs in your hand luggage, make sure they are in a clear re-sealable plastic bag. Each item should not be more than 100ml and the total content of all items should not be more than one litre
- Remember to put anything metal - watch, jewellery, mobile phone, coins, belt - into your hand luggage well before you arrive at the X-ray machine. This will save time at security screening
- Don't forget to leave a minimum of three hours for check-in and passport control. Take into consideration daily rush hours and available routes in calculating your commuting time to the airport
- Be sure to check which terminal you are departing from before leaving home
- Beat the queues by checking-in online or using the self-service check-in kiosks in the departures hall. Customers with baggage can make use of the quick-baggage drop counters, while those carrying only hand luggage can proceed directly to Immigration
- Using the e-Gate card helps avoid queuing at passport control, both while arriving and on departure. An eGate Card can be obtained from Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department for AED200 (approx. US$ 55)
