Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3, which is used exclusively by Emirates, has seen 16.1 million passengers pass through the terminal in the 12 months since it opened in October last year, the facility’s operator said on Tuesday.
The terminal has handled 96,000 flights during the period, while the volume of baggage handled was 18.7 million pieces, Dubai Airports Co said in a statement.
The terminal, which includes Concourse 2, was built as part of Dubai airport’s $4.5 billion expansion. Concourse 3 is scheduled to open at the end of 2012 in the next phase of development.
Concourse 3 will increase the airport’s passenger handling capacity to 80 million a year from 60 million now.
The airport expects to handle 40.5 million passengers by the end of 2009 compared with 37.4 million in 2008.
